The GCC Property and Land Strategy Paper 2019-2029 is a very important document in relation to Sir John Maxwell School.
This ambitious paper endorses and amplifies the policy position articulated in the Glasgow City Development Plan (March 2017) and the subsequent Glasgow Community Plan.
The strategy is to be achieved by means of 5 inter-related enabling plans. Two of these are of paramount significance to Sir John Maxwell - The Community Asset Plan (3.3) and the Built Heritage Plan (3.4):
3.3.3 ‘Crucial to the success of this plan will be the on-going support to build capacity within communities so that community asset transfers across the city can succeed and are sustainable’
3.4.1 and 3.4.2 ‘ ..heritage assets require significant investment to undertake remedial works, to modify, to support alternative uses and for day to day operation. Yet at the same time they play a pivotal role in our prosperity, our health, our education and our sense of civic pride...new, innovative approaches to the redevelopment, purpose, management and ownership will require to be introduced to ensure it is safeguarded for future generations’.
Two questions arise:
What on-going support is planned for community capacity building?
and
What steps are proposed to prevent further deterioration of the estate to allow new, innovative approaches to emerge?
